Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen enjoyed playing sports as a young girl and was a pro in her sports. The passion for sports was matched by the natural ability to perform. That was evident when she was awarded every Feis to show and play in Ireland. When she turned 14 years old, she was accepted to the famed Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of studying classical theater and operatic vocals. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after taking the Maureen screen examination. He was immediately captivated the beauty of her eyes. Before deciding to cast her for the role in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton and his partner, Erich Pommer, changed her name changed from Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" - a bit smaller last name to fit the marquee. Maureen was under contract with Laughton for her upcoming movie in America at RKO Pictures (The Hunchback of Notre The Dame, 1939). Maureen had the opportunity to purchase her contract with Laughton following the film's success. a huge success. In the year 19 Maureen had already starred in two major motion pictures together with Laughton.
